• Anyone, or anything, entering a crime scene

  • takes something of the scene with them

  • leaves something of themselves behind when they leave.

• For example, in a homicide case,

  • the offender attempts to misdirect investigators by creating a suicide note on the victim's computer

  • and leaves his fingerprints on the keyboard...
