FAT12 - 12 bit allocation system used on floppy diskettes.
Windows 2000 will default to formatting a very small volume (64MB flash card, for instance) with FAT12 to prevent waste of space for the overhead incurred with other file systems.
Every operating system uses FAT12 for floppies to allow for interoperability.
